Social Security Disability: Low Birth Weight – Failure to Thrive
When people hear the term Social Security, most people think of the elderly receiving payments after they retire. Even Social Security Disability is often associated with people that aren’t extremely young. However, this is definitely not the case. I have written a blog post in the past discussing that there is generally not a specific age you need to be to receive Disability payments. Of course being certain ages has different implications on your Disability claim, but being very young absolutely does not automatically preclude people/children from receiving Disability. In fact Social Security essentially has a listing reserved for newborns.
Listing 100.00 covers low birth weight and failure to thrive. Many babies are born with low weight or struggle to grow and develop as most children do for a variety of reasons. Listing 100.00 goes over the many aspects of a Disability claim of this type. They have even posted specific charts that Social Security uses to determine whether a child is disabled due to a low birth weight or a failure to thrive. Of course with all cases, it is not as simple as whether the child meets those standards. There are many factors that go into determining if someone is eligible for Disability. It is important to consult with a Disability lawyer to help sort through these requirements.
