Should I Respond to Social Security?
I often get calls from clients saying they received a letter from Social Security and don’t know whether to respond. The simplest answer is yes. While it is always a good idea to ask your attorney what the best course of action is in any situation, doing the things Social Security requests for your Disability case is usually a good idea as well. Why is that?
Unfortunately, sometimes Social Security gets a reputation that they are looking for reasons to deny you and people worry that any contact may be a trick to denying their
Disability claim. In reality, Social Security is looking to find the truth about your Disability claim, for better or worse. When they contact you, they are normally just looking for more information so they can make an accurate decision. This is another reason you need to be as thorough as possible when completing their paperwork. Listing your primary care physician as “Dr. Anderson” and no other information could end up delaying or even hurting your Disability case by causing confusion. It is best to be honest and complete in your dealing with Social Security Disability so they can make the correct decision (and in the end, this is what you want).
As I stated before, Social Security is usually on a fact finding mission or trying to help explain things when they send you paperwork. However, it is never a bad idea to check with a Disability lawyer if you have a question. If you have a question about your Social Security Disability case, I would be happy to speak to you about it and help the best I can.
