How to Apply for Social Security Disability

As I have mentioned before, there are two different programs for Social Security Disability and applications vary depending on which program you are applying for.

The first is Supplemental Security Income (SSI). To apply for SSI, you need to call Social Security and set up an appointment to fill out an application. The reason for this is SSI is very dependent on your income so Social Security will need to dive a little deeper to determine if you are eligible. This initial application is certainly a step you can take care of on your own.

The second program is Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). To apply for SSDI, you can also apply in person but for SSDI you may also apply online. This initial application is also a step you can complete on your own. However, many applicants feel overwhelmed by the application process and like to have a Disability attorney help them with it. While it is extremely common to need some help with the process, applicants must remember that they are invaluable to their attorney as well. Your help with filling out documents and providing information is very necessary for a successful claim.
